“I am not a candidate for Mayor,” says Marcus

TWiSK interview with Mayor Marcus Pearl
In our regular interview with Port Phillip Mayor, we discusses local topics including:
Carlisle Street revival program:
How does it compare to the effort in Fitzroy Street? It turns out to be very different.
Mobile CCTV camera placement:
The Council funded Police CCTV camera trailer is popping up in strange places, what’s the story?
Triangle car parking during Palace Foreshore concert season:
What’s the impact on parking?
State election advocacy and funding opportunities:
What’s being promised?
Council mayoral election and reflection:
Marcus declares that he’s not running for Mayor and reflects on his term.
Watch now (12 minutes) State vote could shake up Council
With two current Councillors standing for parliament, the state vote could see two new councillors elected on countback of the 2020 voting results.
If Louise Crawford triumphs in Brighton, it’s likely that the colourful Dick Gross would be elected back to Council.
If Katherine Copsey scores a seat in the Legislative Council, the likely new councillor would be arts advocate Geoffrey Conaghan (assuming the ALPs Robbie Nyaguy is unavailable as he has a political job that precludes him serving as a councillor).
This could be interesting.Day After Terrible Day @ Theatre Works

Low is a tale that comes from and belongs to Melbourne’s streets. Although the characters find themselves in dire circumstances, it is ultimately a story of hope.

Greens pledge $5m for Albert Park Lake

Victorian Greens have pledged to support re-building the final western section of the lake wall, estimated by Parks Victoria to cost about $5 million.
When completed, the lake could hold up to 30% more water. Without it, there will be ongoing significant erosion, water loss and damage resulting in loss of use by sporting clubs.
Greens Candidate for Albert Park, Kim Samiotis (pictured above with Katherine Copsey) said “Albert Park residents have long been taken for granted by Parks Victoria and the state government.”
Hugo Armstrong, President of the Albert Park Sports Clubs Association said “The local sporting community, both land and water-based, is absolutely delighted that its long-term campaigning to get the wall repairs finished off has finally been taken up.”

Candidates in their own words

Last week TWiSK emailed every know candidate for the four local seats to invite them to submit their 5 question bio details for publication.
Here are the latest bios received.
From Tuesday, we’ll be publishing separate pages on each of the local seats with all the candidate bios.

Nomi Kaltmann
Independent for Caulfield

In her own words
Who am I?
My name is Nomi Kaltmann and I am the independent candidate for the seat of Caulfield. I am a mother, lawyer and journalist. I stand for integrity in politics, climate action, strong economy and gender equality.
Why?
There are too many scandals in politics. Parliament should reflect the best of our community, not the worst. I want to contribute to a better society and community.
Why me?
I was born in Caulfield and have always been involved in giving back to people who are disadvantaged, promoting women in leadership, helping persons recently released from jail and sitting on charitable boards.
Why here?
My whole life is here. I went to school in the Caulfield electorate, my kids go to school here and my friends and family all live here. I love this community of thoughtful and caring people.

Asher Myerson
Animal Justice Party candidate for Caulfield

In his own words (updated 1 Nov)
Who am I?
I am a passionate educator and activist for social and environmental change. As a high school teacher, I see it as my responsibility to empower young people with a strong values-based education.
Why and why me?
I am committed to promoting the Party’s values of kindness, equality, rationality and non-violence. I want to see the codes of education brought into the world of politics. Having been vegan since 2015, I advocate for the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle in mitigating climate change and opposing animal cruelty. I am also standing as a candidate to empower more young adults to become involved in politics and to prioritise their voice.
Why here?
I am proud Balaclava local. I love this area and want to do my best to represent all residents of Caulfield District. I love all things sport related and recently completed my first full marathon.
