Funded by a Council Reimagine grant (up to $50K), W(e)aves of Colour is described by its creators as ‘tactical urbanism’ in the form of a colourful and dynamic overhead art installation that provides a virtual roof over Acland Plaza.
Village Well and Slow Art Collective say their work has a playful sense of human scale and creating an inviting and ‘instagramable’ place for resting, meeting and eating.

Port Phillip Community Group has a free Tax Help program for eligible residents of Port Phillip.
If you earn under $60,000, do not have your own ABN or receive income from investments, then you may be eligible for assistance.
PPCG volunteers provide face-to-face appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, as well as remote appointments on Tuesday evenings.

BIG Sculpture Biennale @ Veg Out
Applications close 2 September
Artist’s applications are set to close for the much-anticipated return of the BIG Sculpture Biennale to the Veg Out Community Gardens.
There will be 22 sculptures on show, with the exhibition running from 5 November – 11 December.
There’s a swag of prizes, including over $10,000 in non-acquisitive awards.

Libs set to select Albert Park candidate on Tuesday
Local Liberals will vote Tuesday to pick their candidate for the State seat of Albert Park. While insiders are tight lipped about the candidates, it appears that Craig Berger and Lauren Sherson are front runners.
Craig is a publisher and advertising sales executive delivering publications for Police and Emergency Service Associations, Community Benefit and Not for Profit organisations.
Lauren was the Liberal candidate for the Federal seat of Melbourne in 2019 where she secured 21% of the vote (ultimately won by Greens’ Adam Bandt).
Vote Vegan
Cassandra Westwood will be the Animal Justice Party’s candidate. According the AJP website, she grew up in the Southeastern suburbs of Melbourne and is a proud long-time resident of Southbank. In 2018, the AJP received 3.9% of the vote, the highest vote recorded amongst the micro-parties.
Independent gets going
Independent candidate and South Melbourne Market stallholder, Georgie Dragwidge has got her campaign going officially with a website and video.
The ALP’s Nina Taylor also launched her campaign last week with Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan.
Greens yet to be seen
Meanwhile the Greens are not expected to announce their candidate until mid-September.
