Copsey makes a bid for parliament (again)

Port Phillip Greens Councillor Katherine Copsey will stand for the State upper house in the Southern Metropolitan region.
Before 2018’s disastrous result for the Greens, former Greens MLC Sue Pennicuik represented Southern Metro from 2006 – 2018.
With effort, the Greens have a fighting chance to regain this and other Upper House positions.
In 2018, Copsey stood unsuccessfully for the lower house district of Brighton.
Meanwhile in the lower house
With long term and high profile MP Martin Foley stepping down, sections of the media have highlighted the seat of Albert Park as a possible loss for Labor and a win for the Greens.
But with only months to go, both the Greens and Liberals are yet to choose candidates.

For Pete’s sake, real feedback from readers

A number of the usual suspects were too shy to share their thoughts on departing Council CEO Peter Smith’s achievements.
Even the Council’s media and website were silent on the news.
Seems they were following the sage advice of my late mother Margaret:
“If you cant say anything good, don’t say anything.”
But our In Box was not empty, and here’s what readers said:
“Bureaucratic structure, high staff turnover, sidelining of councillors eg on the Boyd painting affair and some dumb purchasing decisions. The last is epitomised by the new IT system which could have been cheaper and better.
That’s just for a start. But realistically you have to ask, what on earth were councillors doing to let this all happen?”
Noel Turnbull
“He was a strong advocate of the “Renew Fitzroy St” project which has been a success.”
Phil Le Blanc
“Pursued agendas that were not in line with resident and ratepayer expectations. He leaves a legacy of ferris wheels trashing our heritage, unwanted bike lane infrastructure, traffic congestion, road safety issues, endless events, night clubs in residential areas, helipads and private beaches – none of which were wanted by the local community and all of which reduce local amenity.
There is now an opportunity for CoPP councillors to reset by making available to residents and ratepayers for comment, the job description for the CEO role, prior to commencing the recruitment process. And while they are at it, extending the search for his replacement beyond the local government gene pool described in last week’s TWISK article.
Now’s the time to get off the merry go round of choosing from the usual suspects and make a fresh start with a council led by someone who will represent the aspirations of the people of the City of Port Phillip.”
Charmaine Catani
PP CEO factory now includes Cardinia and Brimbank
Last week we reported on the Port Phillip Alumni who had gone on to lead in other councils. Eagle eyed readers have pointed out we missed at least two notables, namely Carol Jeffs, CEO Cardinia Shire and Fiona Blair, Brimbank.
