Long wait for low floor trams on routes 12, 3 and 67
Following a question in Parliament by Greens MLA Sam Hibbins, the government has confirmed that more low floor trams will not arrive until after 2025.
Readers may recall that the Disability Discrimination Act required the government to trams accessible by December 2022.
Here is the transcript of the governments answer
Q: When will low floor trams be available along routes 67 and 3/3a.
A (16 September 2022): Low floor trams comprise around 40 per cent of the tram fleet, and due to the increased passenger capacity of low-floor trams, they currently operate on routes with high patronage demand.
The Victorian Government is improving accessibility, safety and comfort across the public transport network to ensure every Victorian can get to where they need to go. That is why the government is investing $1.85 billion for 100 low-floor Next Generation Trams which will be rolled out across Melbourne from 2025 and are being designed in consultation with accessibility groups.
Once delivered, these new trams will enable the retirement of older high-floor trams and allow you to make accessible connections to other routes across the network.
More information on Next Generation Trams can be found online

Lauren Sherson
Liberal for Albert Park

In her own words (30 word answers)
Who am I?
I am a creative problem solver who grew up in public housing and started my first business when I was 8 years old. I know what joy and trauma feel like and fight for people with unwavering conviction and compassion.
Why?
I cannot live with ‘what if?’. I am determined to do everything humanly possible to increase quality of life and support individuals and communities in their personal, social and commercial ventures.
Why me?
I will find a way. As an entrepreneurship educator I am the only candidate who can transform locals’ ideas into reality. I have undertaken psychological research as mental wellness is necessary for community growth.
Why here?
I am Albert Park. It is my home, where I married, where I work and our local community is my family. I am protective of my clan and Albert Park needs a representative who is ‘one of us’.
