Victoria Reads: Stories that matter @ Victorian Public Libraries

It’s time for Victorians to share their reading stories.
Join online for a chatty and illuminating evening about the reading lives of some other Victorians: Christian White, Nazeem Hussain, Tony Birch and Alice Pung plus hosts Claire Hooper and Paul Kennedy.
You’ll hear about the books that changed their lives, made them smile, and the book they would take to outer space.

Report illegal graffiti and win @ Snap Send Solve
Until 15 September
The people at the handy Snap Send Solve app (where you photograph a local problem and send it to council for action) want to reward you for reporting illegal graffiti this week.
Reports made before 15 September will be in the running to win $500.

Saturday Seminar celebrating Zoe Caldwell @ U3APP zoom
Saturday 18 September, 2.30 to 3.30 pm
Zoe Caldwell OBE was an Australian-born actress who gained international fame – she died in February 2020, aged 86. In this U3APP Saturday Seminar, Sherryn Danaher, U3APP member and niece of Zoe, will be in conversation with Zoe’s son Charlie Whitehead, a theatre producer resident in New York. Together they will explore the essence of who Zoe was as an actress and a person, and her unique approach to preparing her characters for performance. Free

Volunteers needed this lockdown @ PPCG
With the extension of lockdown, PPCG has ramped up their Share the Food program to help deliver food and basic essentials to people isolating or experiencing severe financial hardship.
They are now urgently reaching out to the local community for more volunteer support, including:
Warehouse duties: packing food parcels, sorting stock, record keeping and more.
Transport & logistics: unpacking vans, stocking freezers, transporting food and more.
Administration support: emails, spreadsheets, records and more.

Carolyn Menzies is one of Linden’s Resident Studio Artists. She shared one of her favourite recipes.
“My family in New Zealand has very much been in my heart this week and Afghan biscuits, a NZ staple, are a comfort food for me. Such a strange but delicious combination of tastes – a chocolaty buttery biscuit with the unexpected crunchy chewiness of the cornflakes.”
