$45,454 bill for Acland art @ Council
You may have seen the hanging weaves on Acland Plaza as featured in TWiSK.
We were curious about the cost of this installation, so we asked Council and Acting Mayor Tim Baxter replied with these details:
“W(e)aves of Colour is one of our six winning art installations from our Reimagine – Activation Design Competition.
“The Reimagine Competition used repurposed funds following the cancellation of the 2021 St Kilda Festival. The total budget for the project was $45,454 (excl GST) which included running engagement sessions and workshops with local primary school students who contributed to the creation of the hoops, engineering and tensile wiring being erected, installation of the artwork as well as fees to VicTrack for the use of the tram poles.
“The activation has had a fantastic response from community and visitors with many stopping to take photos against the colourful backdrop.”
Project promised more than it delivered
TWiSK checked back into the announcement of the grant. It was billed as “a colourful and dynamic overhead art installation that will provide a virtual roof to Acland Plaza, effectively integrating a playful sense of human scale and creating an inviting and ‘instagrammable’ place for resting, meeting and eating.”
There was even an artists impression
Do you think we got what we paid $45,454 for?
