National award for local beach lovers @ Keep Australia Beautiful
Bravo to the crew from the EcoCentre for winning the National Clean Beach Award from Keep Australia Beautiful for their tireless efforts on West Beach. Challenged by storm water litter spewing from drains to the beach, volunteers and council have rehabilitated this now treasured area over three decades. Check West Beach out – its near Pier Road behind West Beach Pavilion – it’s magical (see my 5 spots for serenity post). Community Christmas Tree Festival @ Holy Trinity

This little church snuggled behind the town hall in Chapel Street marks the festive season with a massive Christmas tree display and two concerts. To celebrate the opening, Citi Opera presents a Christmas concert at 7 pm on Thursday($20) and there’s Carols on Sunday from 4 pm.

Possum Skin Cloak welcome @ Town Hall

Traditional Owner and Boon Wurrung artist Caroline Martin (pictured above) has created a possum skin cloak for display at the Town Hall. The cloak is a significant Aboriginal cultural asset and will be on permanent display to the community at the St Kilda Town Hall. Join Council for a cuppa and ceremony to welcome the coat. More info
