Call for council to play ball with Albert Park Clubs

Council provides virtually no support for clubs that play at Albert Park. Yet many of the participants are residents of Port Phillip.
“Council in particular provides virtually no support for sporting infrastructure in Albert Park – effectively discriminating against ratepayers who play their sport there”, said Hugo.
A new survey of community sports clubs found Albert Park Reserve is home to 264 community sporting teams and hundreds more individual or mass sporting activities, bringing almost 280,000 visitors annually to Albert Park.
“Parks Victoria, the Victorian and Federal Governments, and the new Port Phillip Council need to invest in Albert Park to support the physical and mental wellbeing of the Port Phillip community,” said Hugo.

Preferences matter
We have now published the complete list of How to Vote preferences.
And most of it is unsurprising. RoPP and independent Liberals have allocated their second preferences to each other – so have the ALP and Greens. In Lake, many third preferences go to independent Geoffrey Conaghan.

Ghost candidate/s?
I am not sure that I believe in ghosts, but when candidates stand and dont appear to campaign yet express clear how to vote preferences in their VEC statement – you’ve got to wonder. Voters need to cast their votes carefully. Spooky?
RoPP says look at the voting record of councillors
Ratepayers of Port Phillip have collated a record of councilor’s voting on key issues.
At a glance you can see who voted for what over the past years.
RoPP President Campbell Spence also told TWiSK that the flood of purple placards and billboards didn’t mean that they had cash to splash. ‘The electronic billboards cost very little,’ he explained.
He provided this statement on funding:
“RoPP are a grassroots community organisation which has grown due to our values aligning to so many residents. We are extremely grateful to the people who have volunteered to create a professional election campaign and for the support of letter box and poster volunteers. Our campaign is funded by many members who have donated $50 or $100 and in some cases more. We have not received donations from property developers or political parties.
Our campaign has probably cost less than other candidates whose campaign are funded by political parties or other well-resourced groups who are relying on expensive AusPost services.”

PPP has uploaded recordings of their candidate forums. They have also collated policy responses from candidates to publish recommendations for ‘progressive’ voters about ‘progressive’ candidates.
Unfortunately RoPP and many independents (including independent Liberals) did not participate.
