New Councillor replies from overseas

The ALP’s Robbie Nyaguy was elected to Council last week to fill the vacancy created by the election of Cr Katherine Copsey to State Parliament.
Robbie kindly provided this statement for TWiSK introducing himself to his Lake Ward constituents.
“My election via countback on Monday has been a very unexpected result but one I’m humbled to accept.
I am excited to be your progressive voice and work hard to deliver on the promises I made.
My life has changed a lot since 2020, I took a step back from working in politics last year and moved overseas to Canada. I’ll have more to say soon on my return to Australia and will initially undertake my work remotely.
Thank you to everyone who made my election possible.
I will do my best to deliver for you and our great city.”

Beach bigots condemned by local MP
Publication in The Herald Sun of a social media post picturing a group posing with Hitler style salutes and a neo-Nazi flag at the Point Ormond Beacon has alarmed local MP Josh Burns.
“Reports of a group of Neo-Nazis congregating and performing a Nazi salute, goes against everything this community stands for.
I know this group of far-right extremists are doing this to provoke a reaction from people like me. However, we can’t be silent and let this happen without calling it out for what it is.
It is racism. It is divisive. And it is frankly not welcome here.
As a proud Jew and a proud Australian, I will always stand against this bigotry,” he told TWiSK.
