Community Day @ Shakespeare Drain Outlet
Saturday 26 March, 10 am – Noon
Melbourne Water will celebrate the opening of the new viewing platform over the big storm water drain with a community event – complete with surprises. The viewing platform will be open to the public from today (Monday 21 March).
What’s in a name?
Melbourne Water call it the “Shakespeare Grove stormwater outfall” and locals used to know it as Brookes Jetty.
But its no longer a jetty, and the drain is not very salubrious.
The design features a “Circle of Reflection”, maybe there’s a name in that.
Any suggestions?

Liberal candidate rides off into the sunset
The Liberal Party is scrambling to find a new candidate for Macnamara after Christopher Ride stepped down last week.
Liberal State Director Sam McQuestin confirmed the resignation on Twitter saying Christopher Ride had withdrawn to focus on his business interests. He said the party would announce a new candidate in due course.
Only last week Mr Ride told TWiSK that he was suffering from COVID (but was recovering) and had been frustrated by campaign email issues.
Liberals contacted by TWiSK were unsure about a possible replacement, but Liberal Crs Pearl and Bond both confirmed it would definitely not be them.
Labor set to announce some local promises
Meanwhile in the red corner, TWiSK understands that local member Josh Burns is set to shine in some interesting local spending pledges.
We don’t yet have details but note that Albanese’s Labor campaign machine has been rolling out local spending pledges with government-like gusto in past weeks.
While our seat of Macnamara may not be the most marginal, it does sit next to the Greens Leader’s seat of Melbourne and Liberal Katie Allen’s seat of Higgins – both juicy targets for Labor dreamers – so expect the $$ to flow.
Greens Campaign Launch @ St Kilda Town Hall
In the green corner, Greens Leader Adam Bandt and Writer/Producer Maggie Zhou will officially launch Steph Hodgins-May’s campaign at the St Kilda Town Hall next Sunday (27 March @ 3 pm).
In an email to supporters this week, Ms Hodgins-May said [Mr Ride’s resignation] was a significant opportunity.
“While the Liberals scramble to find a candidate for our electorate, there’s a crucial window for us to speak to undecided voters,” she told supporters.
