Locals report massive fish kill in Elwood Canal
Stricken Toad fish the canaries of the Canal

Alarmed locals have contacted TWiSK to report sighting over 100 dead fish over the weekend as the Elwood Canal is overwhelmed by a deadly slick and unmanaged rubbish.
“We have now seen up to 100 dead toad fish in the Elwood Canal. They are hardy creatures so not a good sign they are dying,” reported Tracy who lives adjacent to the canal.
She also supplied photographs of dead fish and piles of plastic pollution she picked up on Sunday morning.
“The [Melbourne Water] rubbish trap is rarely emptied and ineffectual in catching the continuous flow of plastic rubbish that flows down canal into Nairm, our bay every day.”
“Whatever, the canal looks more like open drain,” she said
She urged locals to contact the authorities raise their concerns:

Add your ‘special sauce’ to Acland Street

While there are many great reasons to visit Acland Street, the dozen or so empty shop fronts aren’t adding to the vibe.
The local traders and Council have appointed a consultancy to broker deals to bring new enterprises to the area.
Launching the scheme, Mayor Heather Cunsolo said the plan was to fill between five to 10 vacant by 30 June.
“We hope to attract new ideas by offering eligible tenants up to 12-month leases at below market rates,” she said.
If you’ve got a great idea for a retail or creative space, why not throw your hat in the ring.
