It’s the premiere of a Latvian classic and the star of the show has gone missing. As audience you’ll join this immersive production of Dickens Street – The Other to follow the trail through the Latvian House as the ensemble struggles to make the show go on.
This is a bilingual show is performed by a mix of theatre artists from Melbourne, Riga and Toronto.
After the carnage of war and forced migration, Latvians in St Kilda harnessed the endorphin-releasing powers of song, dance, and drama to cure their PTSD. They guarantee everyone will learn the best way of sticking your anxiety under a rock. $45 / $35

TWiSK Local Story Initiative
Seeking funds from the Google News Initiative to fund local content in TWiSK
Play your part by suggesting local stories
St Kilda has many stories to tell and too few places to share them. With the extinction of local newspapers and the rise of algorithm fed social media, we are paradoxically overwhelmed by masses of information and images yet starved of real news that helps us feel more connected to what’s happening locally.
Next steps for TWiSK: It’s all about local talent
TWiSK started in 2016 to make it easier for locals to participate in local events by listing things to do. Since then, we have published a weekly list of local events almost every Sunday, with the 400th edition scheduled for February this year. We also expanded the editorial to include independent coverage of local government and politics.
Now we invite you to participate in the TWiSK Local Story Initiative.
Local knowledge + journalistic ethics = quality local content
Having worked in the media and lived in St Kilda for over 30 year, the publisher of TWiSK is convinced that locals are a treasure trove of expert knowledge on an encyclopaedic range of topics. Also living locally are great story tellers, some working or former journalists, others in related fields like the arts, film, music and marketing where they too tell stories.
The TWiSK Local Story Initiative aims to bring together these two threads of local talent to create original content of a high standard.
Reader inspired topic list
The first step is a reader generated list of story topics for selection.
TWiSK will collate your suggestions, share them with the readers and conduct a poll to select a short list of say six ideas.
We’ll then invite people to nominate as experts or story tellers before ‘marrying’ the experts and story tellers to create the content.
We anticipate that the topic list wont take shape until February or March.

Restaurant revival: Not a week seems to pass without media reference to a St Kilda restaurant revival. Is it true and what’s on the menu?
Local sporting clubs: who’s growing, who’s shrinking, who’s changing and who’s resisting?
