Pop-up bike lane discussion @ Ratepayers of Port Phillip
Monday 1 August
A ROPP meeting to discuss the recently installed Department of Transport (DOT) Pop-Up bike lanes has already reached a full house.
Campbell Spence told TWiSK that the new Pop-up bike lanes fell a long way short of resident’s expectations.
“Residents were blind-sided by the new bike lanes because DoT did not adequately consult residents.
“The term “pop-up” is misleading because it’s an 18 month trial.
“This program does not enhance the on-road safety for cyclists in Port Phillip.”

TWiSK note
Cycling and bike lanes are possible topics at the recently announced State Election Transport Forum at the St Kilda Town Hall on Tuesday 6 September, 6.30 pm.

The Marvellous Life of Carlo Gatti @ Theatre Works (Explosives Factory)
Wednesday 3 August – Saturday 13 August, 7.30 pm
Carlo Gatti introduced ice cream to Victorian London, but this isn’t about him. This is about a physicist in 1983, a psychologist in 2017, a piano-playing Victorian era ghost, ice cream, quantum gravity, Elton John, and feeling alone in the universe.
This bleak comedy looks at the delicate things that barely hold us and the universe together, the deafening pain of isolation and the phenomenal power of ice cream.

CoPP CEO Peter Smith sets sail to Darebin

Darebin Council has announced the current Port Phillip CEO Peter Smith will take up their CEO role in October. (Source)
Peter joined Port Phillip in May 2017 after previously holding the CEO role at the Adelaide City Council. Before that he was a senior state public servant and placemaking consultant.
Late last year, one of the first duties of the newly elected Mayor Marcus Pearl was to announce that CEO Peter Smith had accepted a new contract for a further two years [until May 2024]. His departure means he will only serve five months of a 24-month contract.
Maybe his departure is ‘on trend’, across Mr Smith’s tenure at Port Phillip, the staff turnover has been much higher than expected – at times nearly 20% pa.
What will be Peter’s greatest local legacy?
As the City looks for another CEO, TWiSK invites readers to nominate their suggestions for Peter Smith’s greatest achievement or biggest legacy after five years on the job.

Port Phillip CEO factory circa 2000s?
There was definitely something in the water, or was it the air conditioning, at St Kilda Town Hall in the 2000’s – because so many Melbourne councils now have CEO’s that formerly walked the corridors of St Kilda Town Hall before the renovation.
Sue Wilkinson, a manager at Port Philip twice starting in 1999, was recently appointed as Yarra CEO after a spell in the top job at Darebin. Meanwhile at the People’s Republic of Moreland (soon to be Merri-bek), the CEO is Cathy Henderson, also ex Port Phillip. And North, in rapidly growing Hume, the CEO is Sheena Frost, also a Port Phillip alumni before many years at Casey.
No doubt there are more alumni lurking out there in top jobs.
