New home for St Kilda Gatehouse Op Shop

The St Kilda Gatehouse Greeves St Op Shop has moved to a divine new location on Chapel Street in part of the Uniting Church near Carlisle Street.
TWiSK visited last week and spoke to Andie Patchett about the new location (hear her on our podcast).
‘It’s a fresh new space with soaring beams and magnificent light through stained glass windows. People are saying it’s divine, she said.
‘We’ve got space for so many special things, there’s a toy section and a new space for tweens, inspired by our location next to a school and childcare centre.
There also a sartorial cabinet with gorgeous cuff links, cameras and vintage ties.
‘The space has a beautiful vibe, come down and pay a visit soon,’ she said beaming with pride.’

Vale Pat Grainger 1930 – 2023
Passionate Port Melbourne voice

Passionate local historian and participant, Pat Grainger died on 19 March at the Alfred Hospital after a short illness.
(Pictured above Pat Grainger with Governor Linda Dessau having received her OAM, 2016)
She had been living at home in Port Melbourne until moving into Caspa Emerald Hill Residence just before Christmas last year.
She had projects on the go regardless.
Pat loved Port
Her friends in the Port Melbourne Historical and Preservation Society (PMH&PS) remembered her fondly in a heartfelt email:
“Although we came to know Pat as a local historian, at heart she was a staunch activist for the environment and social justice. For many years, a yellow ribbon flew from the aerial of her blue car as she drove around Port – the symbol of Save Albert Park. Until very recently, she was still signing petitions and writing to politicians urging them to stop supporting new coal mines.
“Pat loved Port. She was known to say she had so many memories of Port Melbourne but they weren’t her memories they were other people’s stories that she had inherited.”

Ephemeral past to digital future

A Council commissioned street art site has been painted over just three months after being completed.
The graffiti art located behind the St Kilda Library was launched in December as part of The Ground Up, a State Government Funded anti-graffiti project.
An ephemeral exit
Mayor Heather Cunsolo told TWiSK three murals were removed at the property owners request.
“The three murals behind the St Kilda Library were painted on a privately owned wall in collaboration with the property’s owners.
“The owners enjoyed the murals but were removed at their request as they intended to sell the property.”
3D eternal existence
But in a very modern twist, the art will live on in digital space including a 3D scan to feature as part of My Art Walk app.
This app is currently in development and will allow people to view and interact with public art works, including those which have been removed.
