Count back will elect new councillor if required

Although the final result will not be called until 13 December, it’s likely that Greens Lake Ward Councillor Cr Katherine Copsey will be elected to the Legislative Council (and must resign from Port Phillip Council).
The replacement councillor will be elected by a countback of the 2020 votes, with Copsey’s vote redistributed according to the voters’ preferences.
This will be done by the VEC computer, probably during an online event as soon as practical.
The winner will be notified and elected if they accept (and are still eligible).
In the 2020 vote count, Copsey voters’  second preferences were spread as follows:
Robbie Nyaguy 47%
Christina Sirakoff 17%
Roger Ward 16%
Bernard Mandile 8%
Geoffrey Conaghan And Andrew Bond 5%
ALP candidate Robbie Nyaguy will probably be next councillor
These numbers suggest that, when combined with Nyagy’s 15% primary vote, the likely replacement will be ALP candidate Robbie Nyaguy.
He is currently overseas but TWiSK has been told he is available to serve.
Until September 2022, Robbie had worked as an advisor to a number of state government ministers for the over three years.
Current employment for a member of parliament would make him ineligible to be a councillor.
Stay tuned for a final result after 13 December at the VECs discretion.
